Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer

David Kennedy Recruitment is working with a fast-growing AI technology company serving millions of users worldwide that is seeking to onboard a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to join their R&D / Engineering team. This is a hands-on individual contributor role, helping design, build and scale core applications while working alongside the CTO, Tech Lead, Product Managers and SREs. The company's products include adult/NSFW content, so candidates must be fully comfortable working on them. Position: Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer Location: Europe, Remote Employment type: B2B engagement DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Design, develop and maintain scalable backend applications using Ruby on Rails - Collaborate with Product Managers to review requirements and translate specifications into technical solutions - Prepare technical integration plans, development breakdowns and effort estimates - Implement new features and improve existing platform functionality - Write clean, maintainable, well-tested production code - Take part in pull requests, peer code reviews and testing - Troubleshoot application issues and improve reliability, performance and scalability - Contribute to technical decision-making and product roadmap discussions - Experiment with technologies and approaches that improve product functionality and user experience - Work with distributed engineering, infrastructure and product teams REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years' commercial experience as a Backend or Full-Stack Software Engineer - Strong, recent hands-on Ruby on Rails experience in production - Ability to independently design and implement complex backend features - Experience on applications serving thousands or more monthly active users, with an understanding of building reliable, scalable systems - Experience in technology scale-ups, startups or similarly agile environments, comfortable with changing priorities and tight deadlines - Proven ability to take features from requirements through development, testing and production - Excellent spoken and written English, and comfortable working with international remote teams - Based in Europe, with CET ±3 hours working overlap - Fully comfortable working on AI companionship products involving uncensored and NSFW content BENEFITS: - 100% remote working, with a B2B contract - 20 working days of paid time off annually - Annual company gathering - Health and wellbeing support - Learning and professional development budget - Company laptop and equipment support - Access to AI development tools, including Cursor, Claude Code and ChatGPT - Direct collaboration with experienced engineering leadership and the chance to influence technical decisions - And many more!!!
